Welcome to Wrens Class 

Welcome to Wrens Class, home to our Pre-school and Reception children at Dodford First School.

Our class teacher is Miss McIntyre, who works to create a warm, nurturing and stimulating environment where every child feels happy, safe and valued. We understand just how important these early years are and aim to give every child the very best start to their learning journey.

Learning Through Play

In Wrens Class, play is at the heart of learning. Children are naturally curious, and we provide lots of exciting opportunities for them to explore, investigate, create, imagine and discover.

Our children enjoy a balance of carefully planned adult-led activities and child-initiated play. From building and painting to sharing stories, exploring nature, making music and enjoying imaginative play, every experience provides an opportunity to learn something new.

Our provision is carefully adapted to meet children at their individual stage of development, ensuring that our youngest children and those preparing for the next stage of their school journey are appropriately supported and challenged.

Growing, Learning and Becoming Independent

Throughout their time in Wrens Class, children are encouraged to develop their confidence, independence and communication skills.

We help children learn how to make friends, share, take turns, express their feelings and become increasingly independent with everyday routines. We celebrate every achievement, recognising that the small steps children make during their early years can be very important ones.

For our Reception children, learning continues to develop through engaging experiences in phonics, early reading, writing and mathematics, alongside opportunities to explore the wider curriculum.

Exploring Our World

Our indoor and outdoor learning environments provide children with opportunities to be active, creative and curious.

Children can investigate the natural world, develop their physical skills, solve problems and use their imaginations. We encourage them to ask questions and follow their interests, with adults supporting and extending their learning along the way.

A Happy Start to School Life

For many children, Wrens Class is their first experience of being part of our school community. We want these early experiences to be happy, positive and memorable.

Being part of a mixed Pre-school and Reception class also gives children opportunities to learn from one another, build friendships and become familiar with school life as they grow.

Working Together with Families

Parents and carers play a vital role in children's early development, and we value a strong partnership between home and school. By sharing children's experiences, interests and achievements, we can work together to support every child's individual learning journey.
