British Values

At Dodford First, we teach British Values in a way that is age-appropriate, practical and rooted in everyday school life. British Values help children understand how to live together respectfully, make responsible choices and appreciate the diversity of our community. We encourage pupils to develop strong relationships, learn from others and recognise that everyone has a voice.

Our approach includes promoting democracy through pupil voice, class discussions and opportunities to make choices in learning. We support children to follow rules fairly, understand rights and responsibilities, and consider how decisions affect others. Alongside this, we teach respect for the rule of law by helping children understand why rules matter, how they keep people safe and how adults and institutions help communities work well.

We also foster mutual respect and tolerance by celebrating different cultures, beliefs and backgrounds, and by encouraging children to listen carefully and respond kindly. Through assemblies, stories, shared learning and classroom routines, pupils learn that differences make our community stronger. Parents can reinforce these values at home by talking about fairness, kindness and respect, and by encouraging children to practise good manners, empathy and resilience.
